Mobile Food Pantry

 Be at First Lutheran Church, 920 East 3rd Street in Cresco, at 8:30am to help with the Mobile Food Pantry. Come dressed to be outside to help unload the truck and deliver groceries to the consumer's car.  After food pantry, we will clean up and load recycling.  We should be finished by noon.  If you can help, email Mrs. Schmitt at school email or call at 563-379-6023 if you have questions.

First Grade Volunteers

The first grade teachers are holding a parent meeting/activity for their classes on Thursday December 4 from 5:15 to 6:45. We were hoping to provide daycare for younger siblings to allow parents a chance to attend with their first grader. We were wondering if there were any students interested in helping watch and do activities with children whose parents may need daycare for the time of our meeting and also to supervise first graders while we begin our meeting with their parents.  We anticipate about 90 kids total, but will have more of an exact number closer to the day.  If interested, please contact Mrs. Berg at jberg@howard-winn.k12.ia.us

Parenting Class

Kayla Frederickson from Helping Services is looking for volunteers to help with daycare while the parents partake in a parenting class. The classes are Nov 6, 13, and 20 at the Regional Health
Hospital and are from 6-8pm. We would like the volunteers to be there by 5:30.
And we can provide transportation if needed. Our only stipulation is that the

Riceville Craft Show Help

Conservation Board Help

The Howard County Conservation Board is working with the Iowa DNR and Alliant Energy to hold Project Re-Leaf.  On Saturday, October 11th we will be distributing the trees to those who purchased them.  We are looking for about 5 volunteers to help out at the nature center from 8:00 AM until about 10:30 AM doing things like loading trees for people or being runners to help distribute paper work.  It is important that whomever would like to help is responsible, able to follow directions, and friendly.

Mobile Food Pantry Help

Betty Schmitt coordinates the Mobile Food Pantry for Howard County.  The pantry is the first Saturday of each month from 8:30 to 11:30am.  Duties include unloading the truck, setting up the distribution area, distributing the food and assisting people with their groceries to their cars, and cleaning up the area after we are finished.  The food pantry is held at First Lutheran Church located at 920 East 3rd Street in Cresco.  The pantry will be held this Saturday Sept 6th  If any students area interested in helping, that would be great!  They can either email me at school or call me at 547-4843 in the evening.

Open House Help

The Howard Winn Tech Department is looking for High School students who are willing to assist us with roll-out night on August 18 from 5-7p.m. 

The duties would include:
-Helping the parents set up emails
-Assisting parents with the apple id process
-Collecting the sheets for the apple id password if parents have previously completed the process

There will be multiple stations for each teacher's classroom on back to school night.

Kiwanis Help during Fair

The Kiwaniis Club is seeking volunteers for Saturday, June 28th, at the Howard Co. Fair for shifts making malts for the Moomobile. Kiwaniis needs to cover the shifts for the entire day, and we would need reliable, committed individuals to help fill our shifts.  The shift times are as follows:
9:30 am-12:00 noon
12:00 noon-2:30 pm
2:30-5:00 pm
5:00-7:30 pm
7:00-9:30 pm
The afternoon/evening shifts are the ones with the most need.  We meet and make malts under the grandstand using the south entrance.

Cresco Public Library Summer Program Help

The Cresco Public Library is looking for volunteers to assist with the Children's Summer Reading Program. The dates would beTuesday June 17 at 9am, Tuesday June 24 at 9am,  Tuesday, July 1 at 9 a.m. and Tuesday July 8 at 9am.  The staff needs help with checking books out for kids, helping the kids get numbers for the 10am programs and getting prizes to kids. We have an entertainer perform on all those dates and approximately 100 + children attending. The silver chord volunteers would be utilized from 9 am to 11am.

Swimming Help Needed for Elementary Students

  The K, 1, and 2 teachers at Crestwood Elementary are looking at taking the kids to the swimming pool.  We are required to have adults in the pool with the kids.  We wondered if there would be any high school kids that would be interested in helping us.  We will be having 2 days because of the number of kids.  We are looking at having 2 sessions on each of the days.  We would be going on May 27th and May 28th.  The 1st session would be from 12:30-1:15 on each day and the 2nd session would be from 1:40-2:25.  We would like them to be there a little before and a little after to help with getting the kids in and out of the locker rooms.  We would be interested in both boys and girls in helping.  If interested, please contact Jo Berg at jberg@howard-winn.k12.ia.us
