Mission:  To assist Howard Co. by providing a place for community service, school to work, mentor programs, advocacy for the aged, and volunteers.  Donated items will be sold to the public.  A hope is to give back to the community and assist in keeping it alive and well.  
Opportunities Learn customer service skills, assist in sorting and displaying products.  Working with the public, cash register, and pricing. 


City of Cresco

Lime Springs Community Vacation Bible School

Opportunities: Last full of June, mornings  1. Elementary Crew Leader – responsible for 5 to 6 children in grades K-6.  Rotates crew to seven sites  2. Preschool Crew Leader – responsible for 5 children, ages 3,4, or 5.  Rotates crew to seven sites.  3. Teacher – responsible for a certain site and repeats lesson 4 times (art, crafts, music, bible, adventure, games, or theatre).  4. Teacher assistant – helps in one site.

Opportunities: Assist teachers and staff in activities for children throughout the day.  Assist in several different activities for the Wisdom and Wellness program during the summer, involving children of all ages.

Mission:  To lead/cooperate with all partners in protecting the citizens and property of Howard Co. from natural and manmade disasters by creating and maintaining an effective Emergency Management Program.  

Core Principals of an effective Emergency Management program are: Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Mitigation.  These principals are accomplished through: Planning, Training, Exercise and by working with;  *Emergency Responders  *Planning Teams  *CERT(Community Emergency Response Teams)  *COAD’s (Community Organizations Active in Disasters)  *Incident Command training  *and Much, Much, More!  

Opportunities:  Howard Co. Emergency Mangagement is looking for individuals to become part of the CERT program to respond in time of an incident or disaster, and also assist in the planning, training, and exercise process.

Mission:  This non-denominational, Christ-centered group dedicated to helping people with life controlling problems.  The organization provides a residential discipleship-training program for men and women who are willing to seek God as the answer to problems.  The center is an extension of Mission Teens, Inc.  The center houses 25-35 people.  
Opportunities:  *Organize a food or Mission Need Drive for collection of non-perishable food items or other household goods.   * Teach guitar lessons   * Help with computers  * Help with marketing/internet  * Help with special events: car washes, yard sales, and golf-tournament


Mobile Food Pantry- Feeding America

Mission:  Distribute food items once a month (Saturdays) and grocery items to people in need within our community.  Also distribute fresh fruit and vegetables – similar to a Farmer’s Market. Mobile Pantry is held at First Lutheran Church in Cresco, 920 East 3rd St.  Items come from a Waterloo Warehouse. 
Opportunities:  *Assistance to unload truck from 9-10AM  *Distribute food and clean up from 10am-12:30pm.  *Workers must maintain confidentiality.  


Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation

Mission:  Preserve and restore Dr. Borlaug’s birthplace and boyhood homes.  Provide educational opportunities for students at the farms. 
Opportunities:  Clean-up at the birthplace farm (located 14 miles from Cresco), painting the farm buildings, mowing at the birthplace site, student member on the NBHF board.

Mission:  Dedicated to fostering the physical, mental and economic well-being of older persons through a coordinated, comprehensive system of services.

Tri State Amateur Radio Club

Mission:  To provide emergency back-up communication following a disaster.  Currently a group of 12 members, this club does fundraisers to be able to purchase and repair communication equipment.  They have traveled to various locations is Iowa, Minnesota, along the Mississippi, as well as to Oklahoma.  
Opportunities: To cook a 1/3lb burgers on a commercial barbeque grill for fundraising events and/or to operate a mini donut machine for fundraising events.
